Our Story
Hunaarn
Hunaarn isn’t just a clothing brand.
It’s a reflection of where we come from, who raised us, and what we carry.
The name Hunaarn comes from my nanny. It was her nickname for me — something only she called me. Like many of us, I grew up surrounded by kōeke who gave us names full of aroha, sometimes cheeky, sometimes deep — but always special.
Ko Wai Mātou
We’re a Māori clothing brand with a deep focus on the revitalisation of te whare toi — the house of traditional Māori arts. Our patterns, our designs, our momo toi are not just decorative — they’re connected to our pūrākau, our stories, and our whakapapa.
We’re passionate about our culture and committed to sharing these stories in a way our people can wear — turning the beauty of our mātauranga into kākahu that carry meaning.
We create modest, beautiful, timeless pieces that honour the full range of our wāhine — all shapes, all sizes, all generations.
We grew up watching our nannies, aunties, and māmā dress with pride — showing up to kaupapa Māori with presence and style. Our pieces carry that same energy. We don’t follow fashion trends — we follow our values. Some are bold. Some are soft with subtle whakamāori touches. But all of them are made with aroha, purpose, and a deep connection to who we are as Māori.
Ki a koe hoki
At Hunaarn, we design for our wāhine — those who want to feel good, be seen, and stay true to who they are. Our kākahu are made so you can walk into any kaupapa feeling proud, comfortable, and fully yourself — without having to shrink, hide, or fit into something that was never made with you in mind.
We stand for:
- Kākahu that uplift our tinana and honour our mana
- Design that reflects the strength and beauty of Māori and indigenous people
- Pieces that are made to last — with care, not haste
- Keeping our whānau at the centre of everything we do
Our garments aren’t just stitched for style — they carry meaning. They tell stories. They speak to who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going.
We’re not here to follow the fashion world — we’re here to create our own path.
These are pueru with whakapapa.
Made for kaupapa, for everyday life, for all the moments in between.
From tangihanga to birthdays, graduations to wānanga — we’ve got you.
This is our offering to our people.
Through toi, through kākahu, through culture — we give back what was given to us.
